We left Pasadena on a typical May gray morning but were greeted by bright sunshine and clear roads as we entered the high desert on our way to Arizona. Cruising through the eastern California desert we drove through the Mojave Preserve and its volcanic hills to the Colorado River which surprisingly had navigable waters as opposed to last years trickle. Then onto today’s adventure a 43 mile stretch of Rt. 66 from Topock to Kingman AZ. driving through the Warm Springs Wilderness, the historic mining “ghost town” of Oatman, over Sitgreaves Pass (3,523 ft) and down the switchbacks to Kingman. Good first day of scenic driving and on to WIlliams AZ for the night.
Topock, Az at the Colorado River and the start of the longest continuous stretch of Rt. 66 in Az.

Glad to hear your Mom is doing well. We left a package in Bend — Herrman — and it was just sold – working on the final paperwork – say Hi to Sandy and I’ll call you when I hit NJ.
